SATUIT was written during my 2012 commission from the Jazz Gallery – a place I call home and an organization that has been an integral part of my development, as well as the development of many of my friends and colleagues. “Satuit” is the Native-American Wampanoag term for "cold brook" which the town Scituate, Massachusetts was derived. This piece was inspired by the beauty of the coastal town and memories of the beach at low-tide, running back inland in order to defeat the beautiful yet rapidly advancing tide.
